myVegas Rewards Tip of the Day
Pre-Tips: my experience this year has been that it is not possible to redeem Freeplay when you booked your stay with any other offer (discounts or comps). This seems to be the case at Mandalay Bay and, I was told, may be applied by other MGM resorts (not all necessarily). So double check and always purchase plan-B rewards in case you cannot before you get to Vegas (see tip n.1 as to why). Onto THE MAIN MYVEGAS KEYS:
Tip N.1
Remember that once you are in Vegas you will have a local IP address when you access the Internet. This means that many of the myVegas rewards will not be available for purchase! What can you do?
1 – You can purchase all your rewards before you reach Vegas or
2 – You have to make sure you are using a non-local IP address. For this you need to use tools or programs which allow you to change your IP address temporarily.
Tip N.2
How Many myVEGAS Rewards Can You Use Each Trip?
If you have not purchased any chips (smart move 😉 ), MGM/Mlife Casinos currently allow you to use three rewards in a rolling thirty day period. If you have purchased chips, it depends on how much money you have spent overall (simply put) buying chips for play. Does this means you should buy chips? Absolutely not. The purpose of playing myVegas is that of obtaining some additional perks, some more freebies for your stay. The amount of rewards vs price spent ratio is not a convenient one. You are better off getting your comps in other ways, and we talk about this on our Vegas comps page and in other sections, such as Free Stuff in Vegas.
MGM/Mlife now only allows one hotel room reward per trip. That makes the whole redemption strategy a bit more challenging in that some buffet rewards, for example, can only be redeemed IF you stay at an MGM property. For people who get great longer-term comps from Caesar’s Group, redeeming myVegas buffets will require a bit more patience (checking availability of rewards daily, best if in the morning – we’ll talk about this on another tip of the day) and more strategy. The ever-changing (ever-shrinking) generosity of the myVegas rewards system renders purchasing chips something to avoid at all costs 😉
Also, note that “For purposes of this reward policy, the date “redeemed” is the date you actually “use” the reward – the day you check in to the hotel, have your meal, and/or see your show”.
With regards to rewards from other sources (such as Station Casino rewards or Las Vegas Monorail), these are explained when you click on the rewards themselves.
