Todai Sushi Buffet on the Strip
Todai Vegas Sushi restaurant is currently closed. We will write updates on it as soon as we have them.
Previous review: located at the Miracle Shops inside Planet Hollywood, on the Las Vegas Strip, Todai Japanese and Sushi Buffet is, in our opinion, a top Vegas buffet for Japanese cuisine. We find that practically all buffets, no matter how good they are overall, offer a below-average sushi section. It’s often dry, tasteless and boring. So, when we go to any top buffet in Vegas, we always avoid Sushi.
This buffet, on the other hand, is none of that. It’s not a large buffet by Vegas buffet standards but you will enjoy it thoroughly if you are a sushi lover. You will enjoy an-above-average sushi selection (about 40 different types) where everything is and tastes fresh as well as appetizing.
The rolls are of a good size, soft, very fresh and some of them offer creative combinations yet cater to the middle of the road sushi lover (but all very tasty). You are advised to try one of each and then go for more of what you like best! As we said, well above the average Las Vegas buffet offering in terms of sushi and Japanese dishes. When Bacchanal opened, they introduced good quality Sushi and, some time after that, some other buffets have tried to emulate that; however, Todai’s Sushi (and other delicacies such as their delicious prawn tempura) is much better.
The salad section is small but tasty; one of our favorites is the pre-prepared Caesar salad (though, at times, a bit over-dressed) and the salad and Masago mix (truly tasty). This section is also accompanied by traditional Japanese vegetables such as the seaweed salad.
Just steps after the salad section you will be delighted by a fresh section of deep-fried tempura and other fried delicacies such as the seafood cakes (truly delicious). We love them all; they are fresh and delicate. In fact, we usually eat so much from this section that we often have absolutely no space for anything else on the menu, which is a shame!
Next to this section you will find some all-favorite Chinese dishes such as (truly delicious) egg fried rice and stir-fry noodles. Everything is just very well cooked, much, much better than what you find in the relevant section of any other buffet. I would say that the flavors here are worthy of a top restaurant, let alone a Vegas buffet!
You will also find several traditional Asian soups , including an Udon corner; some with a slight Chinese slant, next to a made-to-order stir fry; then, a small but surprisingly tasty – and delicate – dessert section, which includes delicious yogurts and green tea ice-cream.
If you are willing to pay the price, at dinner you will also find plenty of snow crab legs and shrimps.
Drawbacks: their opening hours are limiting, in our opinion, especially if you get up late (and, if you are in Las Vegas, the odds of this happening are high, aren’t they?). Their lunch begins at 11.00 (no breakfast) and ends at 2.30pm, which is the earliest closing time for any Vegas lunch buffets. In our opinion, very, very inadequate. Moreover, they do NOT offer a roll-over dinner and this means that, if you are late, you will have to wait three hours before dinner starts, which is not acceptable, really, especially given how many more things you are likely to be doing in Las Vegas! As if this weren’t bad enough, dinner is expensive and, in our opinion, not necessarily worth the price (how much sushi can you really eat in one go?). But, if you are not on a budget, then by all means go for dinner too! It’s well worth a visit either way. If you like Asian dishes, you will love this Vegas top buffet.
