Vegas Attractions Alternatives
Besides the Vegas attractions we talk about on our what to see in Vegas page as well as in our Free & Beautiful Strip Attractions page and our Romantic Vegas page, you have so much more to choose from:
♥ Clark County Museum (almost free!) – located about 20 miles from the Vegas Strip on Boulder Highway (ideal location if you are driving to the Hoover Dam), here you can enjoy Vegas history at incredible prices: 2 dollars a person! This museum offers you 2 great experiences, one outdoors and one indoors. Outdoors you will enjoy a ‘ghost town’ with its own jail house, as well as fully furnished historic homes (including the historic Candlelight Wedding Chapel where many famous people got married) and old trains; indoors you will experience how Vegas changed from its beginnings (you can go back one hundred years!) to now. A great experience for all. General Admission: adults $2.00, seniors and children $1. (702) 455-7955 – 1830 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89002-8502
♥ Neon Museum (downtown Vegas, 770 Las Vegas Boulevard North – tel. [702] 387-6366). If you are into iconic signs from old Vegas casinos and hotels, you will enjoy this 6-acre display of Vegas history. You can book tours (you cannot just ‘show up’) in the day or at night (for a veritable neon display), for a rather pricey 25 dollars per adult. You can look them up on their own website to determine if it’s for you. I think it will be very interesting to some Vegas visitors.
♥ Mob Museum – Old Vegas was closely connected to the mob and – for this reason – the mob museum could not be in a more suitable place! Conveniently located in the downtown Vegas area, the mob museum in Vegas offers a very thorough experience of ‘mob’ life, which you can absorb through high-tech theater presentations, interactive environments and, of course, unique artifacts belonging to the mob and its history. The standard admission rate for adults are around 20 dollars per person (expensive!), though locals, seniors and children are offered the usual discounted rate. 300 E Stewart Ave, tel: (702) 229-2734
♥ Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Botanical Cactus Garden (Free!) – 2 Cactus Garden Dr, Henderson, NV 89014 – (702) 458-8864. About 15 minutes drive from the Strip. Chocolate lovers, this is the place! If you ever ate gourmet Ethel M chocolates, this is where they are made, in the traditional manner ‘old Ethel’ (Forrest Mars Sr’s mother) made them in her kitchen, preservatives-free and hand-packed into the boxes. Next door you can enjoy the three-acre Botanical Cactus Garden with more than 300 types of cacti; this garden turns into a magical winter wonderland from mid 13 November to 1st January with festive lights, decorations, songs and … Even Santa! More on this on our Christmas in Vegas page.
There are other, very interesting attractions near Vegas (some closer to Vegas than others) which you may well want to visit, such as the magical and evocative ghost town of Chloride, the famous Aria 51, the Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon (click on the underlined words for details) and of course Hoover Dam. Do not hesitate to nudge us if you don’t see what you want to know about on any of these areas (the underlined words provide links to pages where you can read details and see photos). If you found any of these pages interesting, let it know, thank you 🙂
