MGM Grand Vegas Resort Review: Is this Vegas hotel ideal for you?
MGM Grand Vegas Resort Review. It’s a huge resort and the types of rooms and suites are many. So, our review here is going to mainly focus on level-entry rooms as they are those you are most likely to be assigned if you use myVegas rewards or if you use any discounted or ‘complimentary’ offer.
The Petit King is what you are likely to be offered on a myVegas reward or a on a low-level comp. Beware because low-level comp means that your gambling is not thousands of dollars but rather hundreds (aren’t they mean?) OR that your offer is for 4 nights or so, rather than the usual 2 nights.
Alternatively, sometimes they will probably assign you that room in the hope that you will pay for the upgrade to what is a ‘regular’ MGM Grand Vegas room; this, at least, is what happened to me on my last trip so I am drawing that conclusion. As per the room per se, it’s too small and it has too small a window. Most suitable for 1 person who does not care about bright lights and large windows.
Regular MGM Grand rooms and Stay Well Rooms. They are large enough and pleasant. They tend to be well appointed and clean, something that’s quite common to all MGM Grand Vegas rooms in general. However, the West facing wing (on the right side) tends to be rather dark because shaded by the other tower and, at least in my room, there were no thick curtains so the green light permeated the room, irritatingly. Bring an eye mask just in case. We have a video of the Stay Well room at MGM Grand Vegas in the Vegas Videos section.
Pool area. Large, with several pools and a lazy river; at least it’s (partially) open even in winter. However, beware that in winter only one smaller pool will be open, with one jacuzzi. We have a section on the best pools in Vegas resorts if this is an important factor for you.
Gym. They are all over the place with this one. They used to have a separate cardio room open 24/7 but now they only have one gym open only until 8pm. The gym has good quality cardio equipment and an adequate weights section. We have a section on the best gyms in Vegas resorts if this is an important factor for you.
Atmosphere. It’s an events resort catering to partiers and events goers, although during low-traffic weeknights you will find a range of guests and not only young partiers. The entrance is huge but bare because of the Hakkasan events requiring tons of space for the huge line ups. You can walk quite a bit to get to your room, so those who have walking problems are advised to book a smaller resort, such as Mirage and Tresure Island (if you want to stay on the Strip).
MLife Desk and overall ‘generosity’. From our experience, their ‘generosity’ after one’s gambling (recycling hundreds and hundreds of dollars per night) is not the best. Generally speaking, seeing casino marketing (at MGM resorts in Vegas) is getting harder, which is a shame as they are much more generous (generally) than most MLife desk attendants. A small exception was the MLife desk at Excalibur, Park MGM and Mirage. Finally, MGM Grand myVegas buffet rewards are difficult to redeem. They seem to have more blacked out days than ‘good days’.
