What to Wear in Vegas

You have booked your trip to Vegas but you now wonder what clothes to take with you to avoid looking out of place, over-dressed or under-dressed… You probably wonder: shall I bring jeans and T-Shirts, and comfortable shoes, or shall I pack my suitcase with chic or elegant clothes? You certainly can’t take tons of luggage with you, especially if you are flying! Even if you are not flying, dragging suitcases, packing, unpacking, these are all activities which take time and.. You don’t want to waste too long doing them!

So, what to wear and what clothes to take to Vegas?

1 always include at least one set of very comfortable casual wear, including shoes. You’ll be doing some walking no matter what, even if along the Strip to enjoy some of the most amazing resorts; unless you want to stand out like a sore thumb or you don’t care about having incredibly sore feet, jeans, a casual but comfortable top (and a jacket if it’s winter) and running shoes are a must.

2 swim wear if you travel to Vegas any time except in the coldest winter months; even then, you may want to use the resorts’ amazing spas, so you need more than your bare skin for those!

3 at least one set of elegant wear (or casual-elegant) even if you don’t plan to go to clubs, lounges or fancy activities. You never know! You may be invited somewhere! Having said this, Las Vegas has 2 great fashion malls, one of them much cheaper than the other, and you can always pick up something there; but, if you don’t want to waste time shopping, bring at least one set of elegant clothes, including shoes.

If it’s summer or winter your options will vary (you can read our page on Las Vegas weather for that) but at least one set for one main activity you plan to undertake is a good idea. If you plan to go clubbing in Vegas, then a mix of casual/smart wear may be the best option.

Las Vegas buffets require casual wear, though I have seen people ‘done up’ for the occasion (a minority), especially if the buffets are in an upscale resort.  High-end restaurants may be more suitable for elegant wear though usually casual-smart is the best option. Some clubs and Vegas lounges require an elegant jacket (for men) and do not allow jeans and T-shirts, so if you plan to go lounging or clubbing, bear that in mind.

Want to wear something revealing in a casino? Mildly revealing is ok, but bear in mind that your top has to stay ‘on’ and not come off (accidentally or otherwise). If you wear something too revealing you may well be escorted out of the casino or out of any Vegas public area you may be in. A casino, although they generally let people wear whatever they like – is not a strip club show; they don’t want to offend anybody nor look ‘seedy’. There is a fine but strong line between ‘night-club’ wear and strip club wear, or between sexy ‘liberal’ wear and escort girl wear, so to speak, and you can never cross that line in any public place in Vegas.
